Rachel’s Song, Vangelis , Blade Runner, 1984

One of my favourite songs from Blade Runner, the theme for Rachel, one of the main characters. I hate spoilers, so I won’t go into too much detail about who she is should you have not yet watched the film. I really love this song, it feels so ethereal, unearthly. The idea behind Rachel is really quite interesting, her origin, purpose, her relationship with Deckard.

Marvellous piece of music.

It’s a devastating bit of music, I know that much.

One of the best examples of how deeply philosophical Science Fiction is at its core. In fact for all intents and purposes, I’d say that’s Science Fiction’s modus operandi. It gets you to examine the human condition, but it removes any preconceptions by placing you in the future. So remember, it’s not all ray-guns and robots, at least not on the surface.
